Brigadier General Paul Schneider serves as The Adjutant General, Kansas National Guard. He was appointed to the position on March 23, 2026. Schneider’s military career began when he enlisted with the 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery Regiment in Hiawatha, Kansas, in March 1987 as a split option enlistee while a junior in high school. He received his commission in the Army National Guard as a field artillery officer after graduating from Officer Candidate School in 1994. After completing the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, in August 1995, he returned to the 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery Regiment serving as the battalion ammunition officer. Schneider continued to serve in the field artillery branch in several assignments to include Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) platoon leader, battery operations officer, battery commander, battalion personnel officer, battalion training officer, battalion executive officer, High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) battalion commander and field artillery brigade commander. He also served in a full time Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) capacity as both the battalion training officer and administrative officer helping transition the Regiment through several weapons systems to include M110 8 inch, MLRS and HIMARS. While in battalion command, Schneider also held an AGR position as the brigade administrative officer in Manhattan, Kansas. During this time, National Guard Bureau activated COMPO 2’s 8th Field Artillery Brigade, 130th Field Artillery Brigade, in October 2014. In November 2021, Schneider deployed with the brigade as its commander where it served as ARCENT’s Force Field Artillery Headquarters and Task Force Spartan’s Field Artillery Brigade. Schneider was also assigned to several AGR positions external to the field artillery community within Kansas’s Joint Forces Headquarters. After completion of resident Command and General Staff Officers’ Course in December 2008, Schneider was assigned to the Recruiting and Retention Battalion in Topeka, Kansas, where he served as both the officer strength manager and the battalion executive officer. In 2010, Schneider was assigned as the deputy training officer, director of military support where he oversaw the Kansas National Guard’s 73rd Civil Support Mission for the Governor and Adjutant General of Kansas for 38 months. In June 2016, Schneider was re-assigned as the Kansas Army National Guard’s Director of Personnel/G1 where he served until the 130th Field Artillery Brigade was mobilized. Following his deployment, he served as the Chief of Staff of the Kansas Army National Guard, moving to the Kansas National Guard Director Joint Staff in 2023. Schneider participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004-2005 and Operation Spartan Shield in 2021. During his service, Schneider earned the following awards and decorations: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Noncommissioned Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, Joint Staff Identification Badge (KS). Schneider attended Kansas State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. He later received a Master of Arts in Information Technology Management from Webster University. Schneider has also earned a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. Schneider is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.
