CHIEF MASTER SGT. VON R. BURNS

Chief Master Sergeant Von R. Burns is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, 190th Air Refueling Wing, Forbes Field, Topeka, Kansas.  He is the Wing’s senior enlisted leader and principal advisor to the commander on matters affecting the health, morale, welfare, readiness, professional development and effective utilization of more than 800 enlisted Airmen.

 

The Wing operates and maintains a fleet of 12 KC-135R aircraft that provide expeditious global mobility airpower and deploys expeditionary forces in support of worldwide conflict, contingency and humanitarian operations while maintaining a nuclear deterrence tasking.  The Wing also supports the State of Kansas and the United States of America during natural disasters and provides a domestic operations emergency response.

 

Chief Burns enlisted in the United States Air Force in October 1986.  He graduated from the Munitions Systems Mechanic course at Lowry Air Force Base, Colo., in August 1987. His background includes various duties in the munitions systems career field, force support squadron, group superintendent and Wing Command Chief.  His deployment experience includes tours to Italy, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Cyprus, Qatar and Guam in support of Operations DENY FLIGHT, IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM.

 

Chief Burns is a Drill Status Guardsman and is employed as a detective with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department.  He is currently assigned to the Violent Crimes Enforcement Division and has been with the department for over 18 years.  Prior to his current position, he served as the Operations Group Superintendent, 190th ARW, Forbes Field, Kan.
